B.I.G. Love Fun Run 2012

The Boss and I signed up for the B.I.G. Love Fun Run this year to celebrate the life of a very special little boy who lost his fight with cancer this past year. We were just two of many people who came out to support team Angels for Aidan on Saturday. We weren't sure the run/walk would happen due to severe thunderstorms expected in the area. We went out anyway and ran in the rain. The really bad weather stayed away thankfully. We got there early to sign in. This was the Boss's first run outside of school so I was curious to see how it went. We had several friends who were there that we don't get to see often enough so it was nice to catch up.
The 5k Run/Walk was first followed by the 7 year old and above 1 mile run and then a kids dash!
I started off the 5K walking with a friend. Right down from the start the Boss decided that he wanted to do it with me. He isn't the biggest fan of running/walking for a distance he likes to sprint. The first mile was interesting. I had to coax him along and pull him by the hand to keep up with me and I don't walk fast. Once I promised him a GIANT frozen yogurt if he finished he took off and Ran/Walked the rest with a cute young lady and her dad. I was walking with the mom. We made it and we weren't last. Also we ran the last bit. I was so happy that I made it without shin splints or any pain at all in the legs or knees. I usually have awful runs this one was really nice. I am so glad that we participated.
After the Boss finished the 5K he was signed up to do the mile run. He was excited. I was nervous. One of my friends said he would run with him and his son too. So while they were gone I watched my friends 1.5 year old. Half way through the Boss hurt his leg and ended up walking the last part. I was so proud of him for completing both 5K and the 1 mile. I look at it as a starting point for both of us. Hopefully we will sign up for some more races and actually get into running some more.

Dance Party Cleaning

Yesterday when we got home we cranked up the music in the kitchen and had a cleaning dance party for our activity of the day. To me this was killing two birds with one stone. The house got a little cleaner and we all shook our tushies while getting it done. Hooray!

Another activity we do every week day is that I walk my son to school each morning. It isn't very far but it is a great way to get active first thing in the morning.

And the Project Begins

My goal is to get myself fit while keeping my kids active and involved while possibly inspiring others out there to follow our lead. Hopefully this will instill a love of activity in all of us. I have a 7 year old boy (The Boss) and a 19 month old girl (Lady Bug). So getting and keeping them both involved with the age difference should be fun. We are going to incorporate atleast 1 activity in our day toward improving our health and fitness. My son has PE at school and is very active young man. I have no worries that he is burning up enough energy but I also want to show him that health and fitness are important at home too. I on the other hand have a desk job. On most days I am lucky to get up for a bathroom break a couple of times a day. So I am the Work In Progress. If we can get atleast one activity in a day I believe we can start a trend that keeps building in our home. I plan to post several times a week on what activities we completed for the week. Since this project is in its infancy please feel free to submit suggestions in the comments or just encourage us along.

Let's get started

I am a very busy mother of two. I am very excited to start this blog. I grew up very athletic but once I hit a desk job and two kids the weight has added up. I am here to go through what it takes for me to get fit with my kids. I want my children to enjoy the active lifestyle that I had growing up. I am not a trainer or a fitness professional. I am a mom with a full time job who wants to raise her children to be healthy and active. I hope that you enjoy our journey into doing little things each day to get fit together.
